Wash WaterRestaurant Outreach

If you're a restaurant owner or employee, how you manage water makes a huge difference on the quality of our water. Many folks don't realize the difference between the storm sewer and the sanitary sewer. While the water flowing into the sanitary sewer system is treated at the wastewater treatment plant, water flowing into the storm sewer flows untreated, directly into a nearby stream, river and lake. Because we all live in a watershed, the cumulative impacts of these pollutants can make our water unfit for drinking, wildlife, and recreation. By taking a few preventative measures, you can help protect our waters. For more information on restaurant pollution, check out these fantastic factsheets put together by the UNC Institute for the Environment and the Town of Chapel Hill. Please click here to view and download/order copies of the Restaurant Pollution Poster.
